The UAE has shown its support for the Palestinian people by sending a plane carrying 68 tonnes of vital food supplies to the Gaza Strip. This humanitarian aid is part of the UAE’s ongoing efforts to provide relief to those affected by the Israel-Gaza war.
Cooperating with the World Food Programme, the aircraft flew to Al Arish in Egypt on Friday. From there, the food aid will be transported to Gaza through the Rafah crossing.
Sultan Al Shamsi, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs for Development and International Organisations Affairs, stated, “In light of the continuous efforts made by the UAE to provide relief to the Palestinian people, work is underway in a number of places to provide humanitarian and relief support to the Palestinian brothers in the Gaza Strip.”
The aid shipment is part of the Compassion for Gaza campaign, a joint effort by the Emirates Red Crescent, the World Food Programme, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Ministry of Community Development. Relief aid activities will continue this weekend with events taking place in Abu Dhabi, Dubai, and Sharjah.
Volunteers from across the UAE, as well as public and private institutions, will come together to prepare 25,000 relief packages during these events. In Dubai, the collection will take place on Saturday at Al Rimal Hall from 9am to 2pm. On Sunday, an event will be held at Abu Dhabi National Exhibiton Centre (Adnec), along with another collection at the Expo Centre Sharjah, both from 9am to 2pm.
To maximize the collection efforts, malls in the region will distribute donation boxes to shoppers. Majid Al Futtaim Shopping Malls announced that its malls in Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman, and Fujairah will accept donations of cash, blankets, canned food, new clothes, and children’s supplies.
Specifically, Mall of the Emirates, City Centre Mirdif, City Centre Ma’aisem, City Centre Deira, and City Centre Shindagha in Dubai will serve as donation centers, while City Centre Al Zahia, City Centre Sharjah, and Matajer Al Quoz are the locations in Sharjah. City Centre Ajman, City Centre Fujairah, and My City Centre Masdar in Abu Dhabi will also provide donation boxes.
