Suad Al-Araimi, the Emirati author of the novel “Happened in Sebeya,” has been awarded the prestigious Best Emirati Novel Award at the 42nd Sharjah International Book Fair (SIBF). The Chairperson of the Sharjah Book Authority (SBA), Sheikha Bodour bint Sultan Al Qasimi, presented the award at the ongoing event. The SIBF awards encompass various categories including Best Emirati Academic Book, Best Emirati Creative Literature Book, and Best Emirati First Novel Book Award. Dr. Aisha Ahmed Al Ghais received the Best Emirati Academic Book award for her work “Woman in Emirati Folklore: A Cultural Reading of Popular Discourse”. The poetry collection “Al-Ghaseq” by Najat Al-Zaheri won the Best Emirati Creative Literature Book award, while Mona Abdulqadir Al-Ali’s “Mazofa Samma” was recognized as the Best Emirati First Novel Book. Ahmed Tayyebawi’s “Bab Al-Wadi” was honored as the Best Arabic Novel. The awards also recognized international works, with “An Andalus Adventure” by Saiyada Jalali winning the title of Best International Fiction Book and “Unbounded – A Memoir” by Huda Al-Ghusn receiving the Best International Non-Fiction Book award. The Best Local Publisher award went to Dar Malamih, while Al Dar Al Masriah Al Lubnaniah from Egypt was recognized as the Best Arab Publisher, and OM Books International from India earned the title of Best International Publisher. Khoula Al Mujaini, General Coordinator of SIBF, emphasized the importance of the awards in inspiring authors to create meaningful content and commended the contributions of authors and publishers in crafting profound narratives. In addition to the SIBF awards, Sheikha Bodour Al Qasimi honored the winners of the 15th edition of the Etisalat Award for Arabic Children’s Literature, which is organized by the UAE Board on Books for Young People (UAEBBY). Winners in different categories included Fatimah Al Sadoun and Iman Abdul Hamid for “Feelings, Feelings!” in the Early Reader category, Abdullah Al Sharhan for “An Elephant on My Finger” in the Picture Book category, Mays Dagher and Mohammed Al Hamawi for “Destroying the World in 46 Seconds” in the Chapter Book category, Rania Bedda for “Mariam’s Earring” in the Young Adult Book category, and Mohanned Al Akouse for “Water’s Singing” in the Poetry category. Marwa Al Aqroubi, President of the UAEBBY, expressed gratitude to Sheikha Bodour Al Qasimi for launching the award and thanked Etisalat for their support. The UAEBBY has expanded its reach internationally, thanks to the SBA’s involvement in cultural events worldwide, ensuring that the award receives nominations from around the world.
