Parenting News: Making Sustainable Choices

The UAE’s preparations for COP28 are in full swing as individuals across various sectors begin to dive deeper into sustainable living. To highlight the importance of early sustainable parenting choices, a recent wknd. conversations event took place on November 2nd at Think Smart Hub, Dubai, in partnership with WaterWipes.

The discussion began with a keynote address from David Lawlor, Brand Acceleration Director at WaterWipes, who announced the launching of plastic-free wipes across their entire product range in the GCC. This is part of the brand’s ongoing efforts to both protect sensitive skin and minimize environmental impact.

Proceeding Mr. Lawlor’s address, Dubai-based parenting and nutrition blogger Eshanka Wahi shared her parenting journey and emphasized her commitment to sustainable choices. The panel also included Amanda Rushforth, a UAE-based sustainability advocate, Kavita Srinivasan, a conscious parenting coach based in Dubai, and Dr. Minal Patwardhan Andrade, the UAE’s first female dermatologist. Together with David Lawlor, the panelists delved into the importance of sustainable choices in parenting and debunked common myths related to baby care.

Amanda Rushforth, one of the panelists, underscored that making sustainable choices is crucial for new parents as it establishes a foundation for a sustainable mindset in their children’s lives. She recommended shopping for second-hand items for children from a very young age to reduce environmental impact and instill sustainable values early on.

Moreover, the panelists highlighted the significance of selecting eco-friendly and non-toxic baby products, reducing waste, and focusing on the ingredients of baby skincare products. Dr. Andrade emphasized that the choices made during a baby’s early years significantly impact their skin’s health.

Ultimately, the event served as a reminder that integrating sustainable practices into baby care routines can instill environmentally responsible values in children. It was a call for parents and caregivers to embrace a more natural way of living while expressing respect for themselves, showing respect for the environment. The wknd. conversations aim to bring together influential voices from various industries and subjects. For more information, please contact [email protected].
