Stealing the spotlight in Hall 2, Raneem Ahmed, a Palestinian expat, works tirelessly amidst the ongoing Israel-Hamas war, using her skills to churn out messages of hope on the Braille display.
Conducting herself with composure and patience, Raneem displays her expert command over Braille, attracting a steady stream of individuals eager to avail her personalized Braille messages for their loved ones. The artist avows that these special messages serve as heartfelt encouragements to visually impaired children, inspiring them to explore the joy of reading through custom-made messages.
Over the SIBF weekend, Raneem typed approximately 30 messages, each echoing sentiments of strength, perseverance, and faith. Her typing skills, coupled with her calm demeanor and resolve, have made her an admired and sought-after presence at the renowned book fair. She not only assists visually impaired individuals but also indulges those looking to gift Braille books with a special touch.
In addition to her proficient skills, Raneem is a Braille teacher, representing the Kalimat Foundation at the SIBF. Her educational background includes a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Ajman University’s College of Humanities and Sciences, where she graduated with a perfect 4/4 GPA. Despite her own visual impairment, she has taken up the noble cause of empowering individuals with disabilities. To achieve this goal, she actively promotes independence through the effective use of Braille display output in her phone and voice settings to navigate social media platforms, read messages, conduct groceries, and accomplish everything she sets her mind to.
Raneem is a proud member of the Emirates Association for Visually Impaired where she delivers Braille classes to children, teenagers, and adults, aiming to make Braille literacy an indispensable skill for everyone.
