By 2024, UAE plans to implement a major overhaul of government services

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) is embarking on a mission to streamline government services in an effort to enhance efficiency and delivery. At least 2,000 procedures are being eliminated as part of the Zero Government Bureaucracy programme, which aims to enhance quality and flexibility. This initiative builds on the Smart Government programme launched in 2013 by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Vice President and Ruler of Dubai, and aligns with the We Are the Emirates 2031 vision and UAE Centennial 2071 goal.

Ministries and government agencies are tasked with reducing their procedures by cancelling at least 2,000 services, cutting time frames in half, and eliminating unnecessary conditions and requirements by 2024.

The announcement comes following Sheikh Mohammed’s emphasis on government priorities, including economic growth and development, youth support, and environmental protection. The government’s annual meeting in Abu Dhabi saw over 500 dignitaries, including heads of UAE executive boards, ministers, and senior officials, discussing strategies and initiatives at federal and local levels.

Sheikh Mohammed also approved Dubai’s budget for 2024 to 2026, allocating a significant expenditure of Dh246.6 billion ($67.14 billion). This move underscores the government’s commitment to advancing productivity, community cohesion, and the principles of the UAE. The UAE’s efforts to enhance government services signal a significant step towards achieving its long-term vision for the nation.
