Chad witnesses the inauguration of a second underground well by UAE aid team

UAE Aid Team Opens Second Well in Chad as Part of Humanitarian Project to Provide Clean Water

An aid team from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has successfully opened a second well in the city of Amdjarass in Chad. This initiative is part of a larger humanitarian project aimed at providing clean drinking water to those in need.

The team has completed all drilling and equipment preparations for the well, which reaches a depth of 180 meters and is equipped with pumps and generators. This well, along with several others planned for the region, will supply over 200 liters of potable water per hour to residents in four villages within the Kogo region. These villages have been grappling with a shortage of clean water.

The inauguration of the well was attended by representatives from various Emirati humanitarian organizations, including the Emirates Red Crescent, the Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan Charitable and Humanitarian Foundation, the Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation, and the Office for the Coordination of Foreign Aid. The event was reported by the state news agency Wam.

In recent months, the UAE has been actively providing assistance to Sudanese refugees in Chad who have fled their homeland due to ongoing conflict. This aid has included food supplies, tents, and medical assistance. To further support these efforts, the UAE recently opened a second foreign aid coordination office in Chad.

As part of their ongoing support, the Emirati team has distributed 200 food baskets containing essential food items to several villages near Amdjarass city. Additionally, a field hospital was opened in July in the eastern city to strengthen health services and provide medical care to the increasing number of refugees. Since its establishment, the hospital has treated over 9,000 patients and performed 116 different operations. The facility is equipped with intensive care equipment and solar-powered lighting systems.

Moreover, the UAE has contributed to education in the region by establishing boys’ schools, girls’ schools, and primary schools for Sudanese children.

The conflict in Sudan, which began as a result of tensions between the military and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces, has led to a humanitarian crisis affecting millions of people. The UAE has warned about the dire situation, with thousands losing their lives and over five million being displaced. Approximately one million of these displaced individuals have sought refuge in neighboring countries such as Egypt, South Sudan, and Chad.

To address the ongoing crisis, peace talks between the warring sides have recently resumed in Jeddah. The aim is to establish a ceasefire agreement and facilitate the delivery of essential humanitarian aid. Previous attempts at mediation, led by the United States and Saudi Arabia, have resulted in short-lived truces that were consistently violated.

Overall, the UAE’s dedication to providing aid and support to Chad during this challenging time is commendable. Their efforts in opening wells, establishing medical facilities, and aiding refugees demonstrate their commitment to improving the lives of those affected by the Sudanese conflict.
