Dubai to Construct Air-Conditioned Rest Areas for Delivery Riders
Dubai is set to build 40 air-conditioned rest areas across the city for delivery riders, according to the Roads and Transport Authority. These rest areas will provide delivery riders with a comfortable space to relax while waiting for orders and will contribute to improving road safety.
The rest areas will be equipped with amenities such as a snack dispenser, water cooler, and mobile phone charging station. Depending on their location, each rest area will have the capacity to accommodate up to 10 people and offer designated parking spaces for motorcycles. The design of the rest area exteriors has been carefully planned to minimize the impact of sunlight.
To ensure accessibility, the rest areas will be strategically located in various districts across the city, including Arabian Ranches, International City, Business Bay, Al Quoz, Al Karama, Al Satwa, Al Jaddaf, and Mirdif. Two rest areas have already been completed in Al Barsha, and the remaining sites will be constructed in three phases.
The Roads and Transport Authority aims to have all 40 rest areas completed by July of next year. This initiative reflects the authority’s commitment to creating a conducive working environment for delivery riders, as the demand for delivery services has significantly increased in recent years.
Mattar Al Tayer, the director general of the authority, emphasized the importance of selecting the rest area locations based on operational data analysis and coordination with delivery companies. This effort aligns with the authority’s goal of regulating and enhancing the safety of the delivery sector, which has experienced substantial growth. In 2022 alone, the number of companies offering motorcycle delivery services in Dubai increased by 40% compared to the previous year, reaching a total of 2,891.
In March, the authority announced plans to construct additional rest areas for delivery riders, including locations along Sheikh Zayed Road, near Festival Plaza at Jebel Ali Village, at Port Saeed next to Al Muraqqabat Street 22, and at Ras Al Khor Industrial Area 2 near Al Manama Street. This expansion aims to cater to the growing needs of delivery riders in Dubai.
It is worth noting that Abu Dhabi also announced similar plans in July, with the construction of rest stations that offer air conditioning, seating, water, and parking areas for delivery riders.
With the construction of these new rest areas, Dubai is taking a proactive approach to support the delivery sector and prioritize the well-being of delivery riders. By providing them with comfortable and convenient facilities, the city aims to further enhance the efficiency and safety of its delivery services.
