Dubai Ride 2023: Road Closures and Alternative Routes for Cyclists
As the much-awaited Dubai Ride 2023 approaches, road closures and alternative routes have been planned out to accommodate the event. The cycling event, which is part of the Dubai Fitness Challenge, will see sections of Sheikh Zayed Road closed from Al Habtoor City to Dubai World Trade Centre.
The road closures are expected to last for about two hours, starting at 6:15 am, as cyclists take over Downtown Dubai. Once the event concludes and participants reach the finish line by 8:30 am, roads will reopen to traffic.
To ensure smooth traffic flow during the event, Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority has shared a map highlighting the closures and alternative routes available for motorists.
The Dubai Ride challenge consists of two routes, catering to cyclists of all ages and fitness abilities. There is a family-friendly 4km route that follows Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Boulevard, passing by iconic Dubai landmarks such as the Dubai Mall, Dubai Opera, and the Burj Khalifa. For those looking for a more strenuous ride, a 12km route on Sheikh Zayed Road will be available, featuring five starting points for the loop.
Participants are reminded that registration is required to join the event, as those without Dubai Ride bibs will not be allowed to participate. While any type of bike is allowed, it must have at least two wheels, be safe and roadworthy, and equipped with working brakes. E-bikes are permitted, but scooters are not.
Organizers have emphasized that Dubai Ride is not a race, and participants are encouraged to cycle at their own pace while enjoying the sights of the city from Sheikh Zayed Road. Ahmed Al Khaja, chief executive of Dubai Festivals and Retail Establishment, expressed excitement for the event, stating that Dubai Ride has become a cornerstone event on the Dubai Fitness Calendar.
With anticipated high participation from cyclists in the UAE and around the world, the event aims to contribute towards a fitter, healthier, and happier community, while showcasing Dubai as a great place to live, work, and visit. So, if you’re planning to be on the road on Sunday morning, be sure to check the alternative routes and plan your journey accordingly. Updated: November 11, 2023, 8:05 AM.
