Dubai’s Private School Population Surges by Record 39,000 in One Year
Dubai’s private school population has experienced a remarkable increase of 39,000 students in just one year, according to authorities. The latest statistics reveal that more than 365,000 pupils are now enrolled in Dubai’s classrooms, a significant jump from the 326,000 recorded in November 2022. This 12% rise represents the largest increase since the establishment of the Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA) in 2007. These figures demonstrate the ongoing population boom in the Emirates.
Dr Abdulla Al Karam, the director general of KHDA, emphasized that this surge in enrolment is a testament to Dubai’s position as a leading global destination for living and working. He stated, “Our city is not just experiencing growth; it is creating growth. An ambitious city is a magnet for ambitious people, and Dubai continues to welcome a record number of families and teachers each year. Schools in Dubai prioritize quality, well-being, and inclusion, while offering diversity in their curriculums, locations, and demographics.”
In April 2022, The National reported a notable increase in enrolments in many Indian schools in Dubai, particularly from families who had relocated to the UAE. Experts predict that Dubai’s population will reach 5.8 million by 2040, with a significant influx of immigration following the pandemic. Furthermore, Dubai’s daytime population, including commuting workers from other emirates, is projected to rise to 7.8 million by the same year.
Dubai currently boasts 220 private schools, providing 17 different curriculums for students from over 180 countries. Additionally, Abu Dhabi has opened 11 new private and charter schools this year to meet the growing demand for education, coinciding with the expansion of the education sector across the country. To accommodate the increase in student population, approximately 15,000 additional school places were created and over 450 teachers were hired for the new academic year.
To provide a visual representation of Dubai’s educational landscape, a gallery showcasing images of the city’s new schools is included. One highlighted school is the Gems Metropole School, where students can be seen enjoying the forest school area in the Al Waha area of Dubai.
Overall, Dubai’s flourishing private school sector reflects its status as a thriving global hub, attracting families, educators, and students from around the world. With its commitment to quality education, diverse curriculums, and inclusive learning environments, Dubai’s schools continue to pave the way for future success.
