‘Immortals: Fenyx Rising’ offers an adventure that alternates between cringe and charm, but remains worthwhile.

Ubisoft’s latest game, ‘Immortals: Fenyx Rising,’ has sparked mixed reactions from players. The comedic narrative delivered by Zeus and the Titan Prometheus throughout Fenyx’s adventure can be overwhelming and unrelenting for some. The dialogue can feel forced and leaves much to be desired in terms of writing and character development.

However, the game makes up for its shortcomings with its visually stunning world. The game opens up after an initial hour of gameplay, revealing a beautifully crafted map filled with temples, cliffs, and regions to explore. The open-world architecture in this game is some of Ubisoft’s finest work in years.

‘Immortals: Fenyx Rising’ departs from the “Assassin’s Creed” series and embraces its Greek mythology setting, offering players a simple yet engaging action role-playing experience. Players control Fenyx, a fluid and agile character-action hero reminiscent of Dante from ‘Devil May Cry.’ The game draws inspiration from Nintendo’s ‘Breath of the Wild,’ incorporating mechanics such as wing gliders, power bracelets, and a stamina bar for climbing.

Combat in ‘Fenyx’ surpasses that of the ‘Assassin’s Creed’ series, allowing players to experience the true power of a Greek god. The game controls smoothly and responsively, offering a snappier and faster-paced experience. The art style in ‘Fenyx’ is a refreshing departure from Ubisoft’s usual realistic approach, presenting players with a colorful and painterly cartoon epic.

One aspect of the game that falls short is the puzzle design. While the puzzle dungeons have a clear focus, the overworld puzzles can be confusing and repetitive. Solving these puzzles is necessary for character growth and upgrading Fenyx’s skills, though the choices for upgrades are limited.

One of the main drawbacks of ‘Immortals: Fenyx Rising’ is the excessive amount of dialogue. Unlike Nintendo’s ‘Breath of the Wild,’ which allows players to enjoy the serene silence of Hyrule, ‘Immortals’ bombards players with constant banter and attempts at humor. Some of the jokes may come across as cringe-worthy and forced, diminishing the overall experience.

Despite its flaws, ‘Immortals: Fenyx Rising’ offers a visually captivating world, engaging combat, and a simplified yet enjoyable RPG adventure. It may not surpass its influences, such as ‘Zelda’ and ‘Genshin Impact,’ but it still offers a unique and immersive experience for gamers.
