Emirates Red Crescent Authority Opens Environmentally-Friendly Homes for Syrian Refugees in Jordan
In a recent development, the Emirates Red Crescent Authority (ERCA) has successfully handed over environmentally-friendly homes to Syrian refugees in Jordan. The initiative aims to improve the quality of life for these individuals while simultaneously safeguarding the environment. The Chief Executive of the UAE Independent Climate Change Accelerators (UICCA), Sheikha Shamma bint Sultan, personally presented the house keys to a group of young Syrians who are soon to be married. This event took place at the Emirati-Jordanian refugee camp in Mraijib Al Fhood.
The introduction of the green zone within the camp is a remarkable achievement. These homes have been constructed in the UAE using sustainable materials like palm fronds and recyclable resources. Accordingly, the green zone launch was inaugurated by Sheikha Shamma, alongside other eminent figures such as the acting Secretary General of the ERC, Hamoud Abdullah Al Junaibi, and Mohamed Youssef Al Fahim, the Deputy Secretary General for support services. Khamees Jumaa Al Nuaimi, head of the Emirati relief team in Jordan, and several other ERC officials and volunteers were also present.
During her visit, Sheikha Shamma planted an olive tree as a symbol of hope and the beginning of a new chapter for the refugee camp and its facilities. Additionally, she visited the camp’s cultural complex, where she was welcomed by the delightful folk performances of the children.
This significant achievement comes as the ERC launched its “Compassion for Gaza” campaign, aimed at providing essential humanitarian relief for Palestinians in Gaza. In collaboration with charitable organizations, volunteer centers, and the private sector, the campaign has opened nearly 30 donation centers across the UAE to collect much-needed relief packages.
The United Arab Emirates has always been committed to supporting humanitarian causes globally, as evidenced by these initiatives. The success of the green zone demonstrates the UAE’s commitment to both the welfare of refugees and environmental sustainability. By utilizing sustainable materials and resources, the Emirates Red Crescent Authority sets a commendable example for future humanitarian projects worldwide.
