UAE denounces ‘cruel’ Israeli attacks and demands cessation of Gaza blockade

UAE condemns Israel’s “disproportionate, cruel and inhumane attacks” on Gaza

The UAE’s ambassador to the UN, Lana Nusseibeh, has denounced Israel’s “disproportionate, cruel and inhumane attacks” on Gaza in an emotional plea for an end to the siege. Speaking at a UN Security Council meeting, Nusseibeh emphasized that it is innocent civilians who are “paying the price” of the Israel-Gaza conflict, now in its fifth week.

She called for a moment of silence to honor the lives lost during the conflict, which has resulted in over 11,000 deaths in Gaza and 1,200 in Israel. Nusseibeh condemned the Israeli strikes on schools and hospitals, highlighting the impact on “babies, children and the elderly” seeking refuge and care.

Nusseibeh also recounted the tragic stories of war, sharing the suffering of civilians caught in the conflict. She spoke of the ordeal of a third-year medical student, Alaa Zaheer Ahmed, who lost her family in an Israeli air strike, as well as the story of a newborn whose life depends on a mechanical ventilator amid dwindling medical resources.

The ambassador also hailed the courage of healthcare workers in Gaza who continue to provide care in dire circumstances. Nusseibeh stressed the need for the international community to act, advocating for a two-state solution as the ultimate goal to bring an end to the cycle of violence and dehumanization.

The situation is evolving, and we will continue to provide updates.
